Beethoven said, ‘Music can change the world’. At the Port Jefferson Station/Terryville Chamber of Commerce, we say, ‘School of Rock’ has changed our community.’
Fortunately, for the past eight years, Port Jefferson Station has been the home of The School of Rock, one of the chamber’s most supportive and entertaining members. Tracie and Jaime Smith are co-owners of this performance-focused music instruction school. Theirs is one of the 250 world wide franchises that inspired the Jack Black movie and later, the Broadway show of the same name.
Tracie and Jaime were inspired to start the school in Port Jefferson Station after experiencing the professionals and School of Rock programs and system of teaching music their children enjoyed in western Suffolk County. About opening here, Tracie says, “We have found an artist and music friendly town. We have great kids from Comsewogue and neighboring communities.” She added, “The School of Rock method is like joining a musical community of like minded individuals rather than taking a private lesson at home. Our goal is to get them on stage.”
We can attest to that! The School of Rock graciously performs annually at our free Summer Concerts, Family Fun Day and Tree Lighting each December. They always draw huge crowds. They are phenomenal singers and musicians. Many thanks go out to all of them.
If you think you want to try it out, School of Rock will give you a free lesson. You can find them on Facebook, Instagram or call 631.476.7625.
