After the student performances for hundreds of cheering residents at our tree lighting, courtesy of Backstage Studio of Dance, co-owner Gwenn Capodieci told me how dancing kept her grounded as a child. Her youth, as an ‘Air Force brat’ took her around the world, through NYC, and ultimately to the creation of Backstage Studio of Dance with co-owner Linda Accardo. Their new location is 200 Wilson Street, Port Jefferson Station.
Gwenn has taken class with Savion Glover, Ann Ranking, Gwen Verdon, Gregory Heinz, Luigi; greats in the dance field. She studied at Herbert Bergolf and Lee Strasberg. In 1986 she opened her own local studio and credits her staff for their exemplary talent, passion and for serving as role models for students.
Locally, Gwenn has choreographed for the Dickens Festival and teaches a ballet class to physics classes at Comsewogue High School every year since 2007. Physical science! She adds, “Dancing is meant to be shared and I want to thank the Port Jefferson Station/Terryville Chamber of Commerce for such wonderful events in our community. I love being able to offer our dancers these opportunities.”
Right back at ya! The Directors of Port Jefferson Station/Terryville Chamber of Commerce thank our loyal member.
