Our Train Car Park Events Director is Craig den Hartog, Owner of Emerald Magic Lawn Care. Our board shines the spotlight on him, having recently discussed his leadership in the Port Jefferson Station/Terryville Chamber of Commerce Spring Loaded Daffodil Bulb Sale. The ‘Bloomin’ sale is a colorful way for members and chamber friends to plant and promote community beautification. Plant bulbs in the fall for colorful blooms in Spring. Craig is a horticultural consultant and environmental enthusiast. His company’s specialty is plant and lawn health care. He regularly attends seminars and leads in green industry practices. Emerald Magic provides invasive and poison ivy control, flea and tick control and their Christmas Magic business is all about holiday lighting. They graciously light up our Port Jefferson Station/Terryville Chamber of Commerce Train Car.
Port Jefferson Station and Terryville has been improved thanks to Craig’s vision, energy and expertise. He has organized planting events over many years; with our Comsewogue students at the high school, with local boys and girls and scout troops he cleaned-up and beautified Steven Crowley Memorial Park on Old Town Road. With like minded neighbors in the early 2000’s he began ‘Old Town Blooms’, wherein he raked, cleaned up miles of roadway and planted over 25,000 bulbs along Old Town Road and around the community. He does it all out of pocket.
“With the support of the board, members, family and friends, we began implementing my vision for Port Jefferson Station/Terryville Chamber of Commerce Train Park. Currently, we have waves of 10,000 daffodil bulbs planted in the park along 25A/347. By getting the community involved and adding color and beauty to our shared spaces, I feel we can rejuvenate the sense of a community team. We are stronger and can accomplish so much more when we work together! ” says den Hartog.
We look up to Craig around here. He is our No. 1 bloomer, was highlighted in the newspapers, officially recognized by the Brookhaven Town Council and Suffolk County Legislator for his dedication to our area. We are lucky he planted himself in Port Jefferson Station back in 1992.
