Ildiko Tillmann, author, photographer and educator, has been working world wide crossing borders, and winning awards. From Hungary, through creative endeavors and muti-genre professional ventures, she has landed in Port Jefferson Station, where she lives with her children. She recently joined the Port Jefferson Station/Terryville Chamber of Commerce. “It is a wonderful opportunity. I appreciate the sense of community that I get from this chamber,” said Tillmann.

Her photography is her artistic medium, and was featured at Southampton Cultural Center this week. “It was an incredible honor,” said Ildiko. We caught up at a recent Chamber of Commerce meeting featuring local Women in Business. “Over the past years I’ve worked as a documentary photographer, and it is gratifying to bring these visual stories to Long Island, my home,” she added. “I’m looking forward to applying my visual story-telling skills to my commercial photography business.” She has a talent for capturing the essence of her subjects, approaching the camera with the eye of a humanitarian.

‘Ildi’ is an award winning photographer. Her gallery includes fine portraits of sports figures, musicians and family members, alongside wedding and event shots; a documentary portfolio and more. Her extensive body of work and gift for narrative photography is impressive. Next month she will have a solo exhibit of her Haiti-project photography at Medgar Evers College. As an educator, she joined the Africana Studies as adjunct faculty at SUNY in 2022. She created a new curriculum for the course, Themes in the Black Experience. Recently, she filed a petition to sponsor a former co-worker from Haiti, who is an artist, professional chef and dancer.
